Springwater Park was radically different 85 years ago

A sterile moonscape transformed into a wooded glen in less than a century.

In 1926, this photograph was taken by Edmund Zavitz, Ontario’s Father of Reforestation.

It shows the future Springwater Provincial Park in the making.

Note the young trees planted among the pine stumps and how all the existing trees were carefully incorporated into the restored forest.
